Action Cameras

Action cams… we just can’t keep up! You turn you back for a second and they have released another one!  Well we have experience using most of them and we do try to upgrade fairly regularly – but don’t always believe the hype, the latest product may not be the best for your project!

We weren’t massive fans of the early action cameras, they didn’t perform well on dull days or when indoors.  However, we have moved a long way since our first big multiple Gopro shoot back in 2013 where we provided 40 of the 44 cameras used to shoot this film. It was a great couple of days working with Channel 4 Creative and Devil’s Horsemen. An incredible 45 hours of footage was shot over two days using the 44 cameras and a cast and crew of almost 300 people, stunt horses and jockeys to achieve the ambitious final film.

We love the challenge of multiple action-cam shoots and regularly work as second or third units on commercials, films and ‘behind the scenes’ films. We can operate on our own, hoovering up unique shots around any event that the main cameras may not be able to capture.

DJI OSMO Action Cam:

Finally a contender to the GoPro cameras which is worth talking about! Using all their knowledge from designing world class gimbals, drones and cameras the clever guys at DJI have produced this excellent action camera. The main features that set this camera ahead of the competition are its incredible in-camera stabilisation and the great colour front screen.

We have recently used ten of these on the set of a Si-Fi drama for Apple TV shooting content for the VFX team. We were really impressed with the camera’s functionality and have rolled them out on some other big prime time projects this summer.

We rent these cameras in sets of four, with all the necessary accessories you require to make your shoot work.

GoPro Action Cam:

“GoPro” has become a generic term for action cam! When a director or producer asks for a “GoPro” – first thing we think is “do they really mean a GoPro” as there are so many options. We still use and stock them, the latest versions are fantastic and set up properly will get you a much sharper picture, less distortion, truer colours and extended battery life compared to the older models.
