The new PTZ camera has fantastic image quality and world class AI tracking. This feature-rich camera can hold its own against much larger more expensive models.

Just like its big brother, The Sony ILME-FR7, the AM7 has two memory card slots so we can Record in camera 4K but have cabling & monitoring in HD. We use this feature on many productions simplifying the infrastructure needed and helps keep costs down for multicam 4k production.

The main thing that sets this camera apart from the competition are its AI tracking capabilities which include super close-up tracking setting.

We really like the “Lead Room Effect” setting this camera offers, using auto framing to track a person – the composition is automatically adjusted to provide space in the direction of the subject’s gaze depending on the orientation of their face. It’s very clever and pretty effective.

One of it’s most impressive features that we’ve seen demoed, is the ‘object tracking’ for basketball games. The camera recognises the court, ball and players as separate entities and tracks along, with the focus on the ball and those closest to it. The camera is instructed to know where the court is so then recognises if the ball goes out of play. This is a great indication of where the technology is heading and what’s achievable.
