Sony FR7 (Full Frame PTZ camera)

The new Sony ILME-FR7 Cinema Line Full-frame PTZ Camera is an absolute game changer in the PTZ / Robocam world.
For years I have been asked by productions if there is something better than the popular PTZ type cameras but not as big and expensive as full size broadcast / film cameras on large Remote Heads. The Sony FR7 fills that void. It has full size 35mm CMOS image sensor, 15+ stops latitude, up to 120fps in 4k and super smooth pan, tilt, zoom control.
I was fortunate enough to be one of the first people in Europe to use the demo model of this incredible camera and was really impressed with it.
As well as being one of the first people to test the camera, I have now received my first batch of FR7 cameras and we have been using them on music programs over the last couple of months.

In January 2024, we were contracted by Listen Entertainment to provide camera facilities for a new visualised podcast relating to “Traitors” produced by Studio Lambert. The studio that the production wanted to use was tiny and had very little space for the production team, let alone the camera team and gallery. We used four Sony FR7’s and one Blackcam B20 track and dolly in this tiny studio space. This enabled us to keep our camera team very small and the footprint of the equipment on the studio floor minimised. This was the first BBC production to be shot solely on the amazing Sony FR7.

We have also had the experience of using the FR7 on different O2 arena performances, like The Sugar Babes Tour and Rema Live at the O2. On these live music performances we were able to prove the Sony FR7 is perfect use for low light stage set ups.
